A WONDERFUL Opportunity
As an organization, FODR has historically been able to take advantage of opportunities which arise through our efforts, partnerships, land conservation activities, and purchases, in order to help keep the Dragon Run pristine. We have another wonderful opportunity! Russell and Rachel Williams are offering to sell to FODR a 74-acre parcel near Big Island, which is bordered on three sides by land we already own. This parcel sits between the recently acquired Revere (105 acres) and Bulman (59 acres) tracts, and when combined with these and the Big Island (205 acres) tract, expands this area preserve to 443 acres. Better still, it links the properties for a continuous corridor along the stream. The Williams tract includes 47 acres of heavily forested cypress swamp and rolling upland hardwood which Russell and Rachel protected in the mid 1990’s by donating a conservation easement to FODR. The remaining 27 acres is a recently harvested upland area which, if not protected, could be subdivided and developed. As mentioned, the property will fill a gap in our holdings. It will also return the harvested area to hardwood forest. Consider the beauty reflected in Teta’s photo. Join in conserving this vital property for future generations. - Tom Gregory FUND DRIVE UPDATE Teta Kain reports that, as of April 1, we have contributions totaling slightly less than $36,000 toward our fund raising effort. If you have not as yet made a tax-deductible donation, please consider doing so. Your friends and neighbors may also wish to participate in this worthy endeavor, so why not ask them? - |
