Local Land Trust Celebrates 10 Years

Since 1997, the Middle Peninsula Land Trust has worked hard to protect for public benefit 1,200 acres in the six counties of the region—Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, Mathews, Middlesex, and King William—that are deemed of significant conservation or historical value. The land trust does this primarily through the acquisition of conservation easements. But the land trust is equally known for its focus on education—especially, workshops and training seminars targeting local professionals, county government staff, and other county leaders.

While this work has been accomplished primarily through the energy of dedicated volunteers, this year the land trust hired a part-time director to focus on marketing and outreach, and hopes to add a stewardship coordinator to head up easement monitoring and associated volunteer training. All of this comes out of a strategic planning process, completed this past spring. As always, the Middle Peninsula Land Trust welcomes opportunities to partner with other conservation organizations in the region.
