What exciting times these are for Friends of Dragon Run! It is rather stunning to be involved in the great changes taking place.

For the past year, board members have been engaged in a strategic planning process to better organize us for the opportunities and challenges we are sure to encounter in the coming years. In January we formed a committee structure to handle the many affairs that this organization deals with on a regular basis. Board members are now looking for individuals to assist these committees.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is taking a huge interest in the Chesapeake Bay region, and especially the Dragon Run watershed. We are working closely with Andy Lacatell, who heads the TNC office in Tappahannock, to identify important areas along the stream and to develop long-term protection for them.

We have also enjoyed a large and steady increase in our membership of people who are vitally interested in our goal to preserve Dragon Run. With so many skilled and knowledgeable people involved in our efforts, it is a pleasure and a privilege to serve as president of such a dynamic and challenging organization.     Teta Kain
