The President's Message - April 2008
In the evening, peepers and other frogs are noisily making their presence known. In the morning the sun paints the sky with vivid hues as ducks and geese began their morning flights loudly chatting with each other. The morning air has lost its biting chill, and bright sunny days are warm. A river turtle is busily digging a nest in the driveway to lay her eggs. Surely all of this means that spring has arrived on the Dragon! But alas, winter returned for a few more days. Hopefully, by the time you receive this newsletter. spring will be here to stay. Tom is scheduling work days and Teta and crew are lining up paddle trips. All signs indicate that it is time to once again venture out and enjoy all of the wonders and beauty of Dragon Run. As we acquire additional properties, it follows that the amount of work required managing and maintaining them increases. Please try to devote a few hours this spring in the outdoors helping Tom in his efforts as property manager. The Northern Neck Audubon Society presented a five thousand-dollar check to the Friends of Dragon Run. I accepted the check on behalf of our organization and expressed our appreciation for their continuing generosity. Susan Wolff has most graciously agreed to act as our Host and Refreshment Chairman for general meetings. Please thank her for accepting this position and assist her whenever possible. I am one of the most blessed people in our organization. It is not enough to be in the company of such generous and dedicated people, but I wake up every morning to the sights and sounds of the Dragon, enjoy its beauty during the day, its night sounds as I go to bed. |
