The Dollar Value of
a Volunteer
Adrienne Frank
According to Independent Sector, the national average worth of a volunteer’s time is $18.04 an hour. This 2005 figure has gone up from $17.55 in 2004. Volunteer hours are like money in the bank and are essential to Friends of Dragon Run for achieving our goals. FODR uses volunteer time to calculate non-cash or in-kind matching funds for grant proposals. In-kind match can be used for stewardship of our land, scientific study, educational purposes, and more. Volunteer efforts are recognized by the federal government and rewarded in tax deductions. You can deduct the cost of out-of-pocket expenses, such as travel, that have occurred for charitable purposes. Remember to record your mileage, save receipts, and keep records of your time. FODR relies heavily on your volunteerism. Please contact Adrienne Frank at (757) 566-4009 or Adrienne-gary@erols.com , or another member of the board, for more information about your role in FODR.
