MENTORING PROGRAM

The Friends of Dragon Run is participating in the 2002 Virginia Land Trust Mentoring Program of the Land Trust Alliance (LTA), Mid-Atlantic Program. This Summer, FODR applied for, and was awarded, a grant for up to 30 hours of support from an LTA-appointed consultant.

The LTA Mid-Atlantic Mentor Program for Virginia Land Trusts is an intensive organizational assistance program available to land trusts wishing to make major changes or improvements in their organizational systems and in their capacity to fully realize their mission. The program begins with an on-site organizational self-assessment and continues with regular support from the LTA Mid-Atlantic staff and consultants over a six-to-twelve month period.

The goal is to help FODR emerge from the program with a clear plan of action for meeting our biggest challenges and having made significant progress toward building the systems needed for a healthy, growing land trust with the foundation and structure it needs to succeed and be sustainable.

Jennifer Adkins, a consultant from the LTA, is helping FODR assess organizational needs, write a five-year strategic plan with goals and objectives, set up a committee structure, and provide information, enhance needed board member skills in order to support and achieve our organizational mission.
