Rachel Akers and Sherry Pettyjohn Landon Ward “Those Weird, Wacky, and Ever So Diverse Rat Snakes,” was the topic of the evening when an audience of enthralled folks was treated to a close look at Landon Ward’s collection of rat snakes. Mr. Ward, a teacher for the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School, discussed the concept of how habitat shapes a species over time and how species express adaptations to various environments. He talked of his experience with snakes, their individuality and characteristics. Mr. Ward is a graduate of Texas A & M University and The Virginia Institute of Marine Science. He was joined by student, Rachel Akers, and FODR program chairman, Sherry Pettyjohn, as volunteer snake handlers. Members of the audience also got a chance to hold the cooperative reptiles. - |
