MEET THE TREASURER

Our Treasurer, Davis Rhodes, is a founding member of Friends of Dragon Run, and a native of Gloucester County, where he attended Gloucester County Day School (now Ware Academy), and Gloucester County public schools.

He attended Virginia Tech following his graduation from high school, and pursued a career in telecommunications engineering and management, during a period of very rapid growth in fiber optics and digital carrier technology. He began his career in 1965, in Williamsburg with C & P Telephone, and relocated to Chesapeake in 1973. Davis retired from Bell Atlantic in 1996, and worked as an independent consultant until 2001.

Davis also pursued a parallel career in the United States Coast Guard Reserve, serving at numerous Coast Guard facilities in Virginia and North Carolina from 1965 to 2004. He was twice recalled to active duty: once immediately following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and again in January 2003, for Operation Iraqi Freedom. After more than 39 years of service, Davis retired in June 2004, as a Captain.

Davis met his wife, Sharon, in 1966 during her senior year at William & Mary. They were married in 1969 and lived in Williamsburg until his transfer to Portsmouth. Their son, Christopher, was born in 1973, and their daughter, Amanda, in 1979. Christopher followed in his dad’s footsteps to attend college at Virginia Tech. He is married and living in Fairview, Tennessee, with his wife, Marty, and their daughter, Kayla.

Amanda followed her mom to William & Mary and received her degree in Business Administration in 2001. She currently works in local government for York County. Davis and Sharon enjoy visits with both of their children, and take great delight in spoiling their granddaughter.

Davis is active in numerous professional and military organizations and enjoys almost all outdoor activities, particularly kayaking and fishing on Virginia’s western rivers. He has taken an active role in Friends since its founding, and has served in each officer position, as well as a member of the Board of Directors. He has served as Treasurer since 2001 and made numerous improvements to financial record-keeping during his tenure.

Davis and Sharon currently reside in Chesapeake.
