Dragon Keepers Goal Tackled
On February 19, a team of volunteers tackled a FODR goal to monitor at least 24 miles of the Dragon’s 40 miles each year and 100 percent of the Dragon every two years. This initiative is referred to as Dragon Keepers.
The team, comprised of Jeff Wright, Jack and Carol Kauffman, Andrea Mitman, Kevin Howe, Art Gilbert, and Anne Atkins, put in at Ware’s Bridge with the objective of reaching Big Island.

Some places required getting out of our kayaks and pulling them over obstacles. However, this was tricky because the mats of smartweed rested lightly on deep, boot-sucking mud. The tiny streams branched in all directions and gave no clues as to which way to go. It would be easy to get lost. It was 2 p.m. and time to turn back to arrive at our take-out before dark.
